Special Education Approach & Success Stories
A Place Where Labels Don't Limit
Many of our students come to us after experiencing challenges in traditional educational settings. At Living Word, we see beyond labels to the whole child:
Students with ADD/ADHD discover focus through personalized learning plans
Children on the autism spectrum thrive in our structured, supportive environment
Students with dyslexia and other reading challenges master reading through targeted intervention
Children with complex medical needs receive compassionate accommodation
Our Holistic Approach
Customized Nutrition Program
We understand the profound connection between proper nutrition and learning outcomes, especially for students with ADD, ADHD, and autism:
Customized healthy lunches designed to support brain function
All major food groups included in balanced portions
Protein-rich options to maintain focus and energy
Limited processed foods and sugars that can impact concentration
Consistent meal times to maintain routine and stability
Individualized Teaching Methods
Our approach to special education begins with thorough diagnostic testing to identify:
Exactly where learning gaps occurred
Which teaching methods work best for each student
How to build on existing strengths
Specific interventions needed for success
Using the ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) curriculum, we break traditional textbooks into 12 manageable packets per subject, allowing students to:
Progress at their own pace
Master concepts before moving forward
Experience success rather than frustration
Build confidence through achievement
Specialized Support Systems
Our comprehensive support includes:
Low student-to-teacher ratio ensuring individual attention
Structured daily routines providing security and predictability
Regular breaks accommodating different attention spans
Multi-sensory learning approaches engaging different learning styles
Adaptive technologies when beneficia
Success Stories That Inspire
Rewriting Educational Narratives
The true measure of our approach lies in the transformed lives of our students:
The Student Who "Couldn't Memorize"
Medical professionals told one family their child would never be able to memorize information due to their diagnosis. Today, that same student recites Psalms 1:1-9 from memory, demonstrating that with the right approach, what seems impossible becomes achievable.
The "Back of the Room" Student
One of our current students was previously seated at the back of her classroom and not permitted to participate because she was quiet. Upon enrollment at Living Word, her diagnostic tests revealed extraordinary intelligence. She's now mastering ninth-grade biology with perfect scores and completing complex English assignments with ease.
The Student with Complex Medical Needs
Ivan came to us with multiple medical challenges, including a colostomy bag and history of spinal surgery. Previous schools struggled to accommodate his needs, but at Living Word, he's discovering hidden talents, including musical ability, while receiving the adaptations he needs to succeed academically.
The Living Word Difference
Why Our Approach Works
Our success with students who have different learning needs stems from:
Seeing possibilities, not limitations: We focus on what students CAN do
Individualized approaches: Education tailored to each child's specific needs
Spiritual foundation: Understanding each child as uniquely created with purpose
Staff dedication: Teachers committed to finding what works for each student
Collaborative support: Partnership between school, parents, and when appropriate, medical professionals
